Mayhem. Mischief.  Magic. When all of Athens gathers for a festival to celebrate the wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta, four lovers and a group of would-be actors find themselves unwitting pawns in a battle between two feuding faerie courts.  Will the end result be a night they’ll never forget or one they’ll never quite remember?

Come and enjoy this classic tale in an outdoor Renaissance-fair atmosphere. Prior to the show, you may see magicians, jugglers, dancers and other characters who will be performing for Thesesus and his court. Audience members are encouraged to bring food and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as comfortable seating.

Outdoor venues – seating and sun protection

Southern Village Amphitheatre (Chapel Hill) is an open-air grassy area, so patrons should plan on bringing blankets or collapsible camp chairs for seating. We also recommend sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, chair-mounted umbrellas and sun shades for protection from the sun. Please do not bring “easy up” tents or beach umbrellas, as these may obstruct the view of patrons further back.

The Sertoma Amphitheatre (Cary) has bench seating, so patrons should bring cushions or blankets for comfort. The seating area is partially shaded by trees, but we also recommend sunscreen and hats for protection from the sun.

Food trucks and outdoor dining

Water and snacks will be available for purchase. You may also bring picnic items and nonalcoholic beverages to enjoy during the show.

Southern Village offers several options for takeout food that can be enjoyed at the Chapel Hill performances (4/29-5/1). In addition, some performances will have food trucks and vendors on site:

Saturday 4/30 (Chapel Hill):

  • Merkato Cafe Ethiopian (merkatocafe.com)

Saturday, 5/7 (Cary):

  • Berto’s Chimis (bertoschimis.com)
  • Crave (iwantcrave.com)

Rain/weather policy

  1. Shows are not considered rained out until curtain time. Patrons should check their email, our website and social media accounts for information about whether a show will be cancelled due to weather.
  2.  The show may be delayed up to 60 minutes to avoid rain. Delays will be announced no sooner than an hour before showtime.
  3. If rain prevents a show’s opening curtain, or from continuing before the first act ends, patrons may exchange their ticket for any other performance (including upcoming productions).
  4. If the show runs over halfway before being cancelled due to weather, patrons may return for another performance. No exchange is necessary.
  5. Unfortunately we do not offer refunds due to weather. There is always a slight risk that weather may intervene or disrupt an event when you purchase tickets to outdoor theatre.
